Imagine!

Just imagine a reality TV show about sculpting.  Imagine there’s no back biting born of cut throat competion, none of the false and frenzied drama that’s become the standard fare of reality TV programming.  Instead, the focus is on the artists—an incredibly talented team of sculptors traveling the world.  The focus is on their work—masterpieces packed with whimsey and mystery, created, for the most part, in less than a day.  Imagine that and you’ve got Carvers, a special airing on the SyFy Channel on March 4th.

The SyFy Channel calls Ray Villafane and Andy Bergholtz, the lead sculptors, “uniquely talented, quirky craftsmen”.  Chris Vierra and Sue Beatrice, their team, the Syfy Channel calls “eccentric”.  That’s part of the hype.  To call them uniquely talented is an understatement.  They are all superb sculptors.  They’ve created top tier collectables for NECA, Sideshow, Disney, DC Comics, Warner Brothers, Universal, and Sony Entertainment, and that’s just a small sampling of the companies that prize their superior skills.  But quirky and eccentric?  Not really.  Those terms best describe some of the raw materials featured on Carvers—ice, pumpkins, chocolate, sand, and even meat!  If the medium is the message (forgive the pun) then these carvers are, indeed, quirky, but brilliant, too.  They craft high art from the lowliest of materials, creating temporary masterpieces that promise a show well worth watching.  This is reality programing as its best, a show where nobody loses and everybody wins, especially the audience!

Below is a sampling of their professional work.  Imagine, just imagine what they will do with a pumpkin or two?
